The fifth round of the Supersport world championship draws to a close at Motorland Aragon in Spain. Yesterday saw the MV Agusta Reparto Corse team celebrate its third podium and its best result of the season so far, with Raffaele De Rosa finishing second in the eighth race of the season, while Federico Fuligni closed inside the top ten. The riders were back at the Spanish track this afternoon for race nine. Like yesterday, De Rosa started from the front row having scored third place in the Superpole, while Fuligni lined up on row five, in fourteenth place, for the 15-lap race. De Rosa made a fast start and was immediately part of the leading group. Fifth at the end of lap one, Raffaele then climbed to second place when, at the start of lap four, he came into contact without another rider and crashed at the end of the straight. De Rosa attempted to continue the race, but his bike was damaged and he was therefore forced to retire. After a difficult start that saw him lying seventeenth at the end of the opening lap, Fuligni then found a good rhythm and moved up into fourteenth place, holding that position to the line to score two points. In the championship standings, De Rosa positions fifth with 91 points and Fuligni fifteenth with 21. The Supersport world championship is set to return over the weekend of 18-20 September at the Barcelona track in Spain. Motorland Aragon - Alcaniz - Spain. Raffaele De Rosa: “I’m really disappointed with what happened on lap four and the crash involving Cluzel. Jules is a fair friend and opponent and I'm really sorry he got injured. I hope he can be back on track soon. I was lying second and felt comfortable on the bike. Unfortunately, as I was braking into turn one, the French rider and I touched and both fell. I’m really sorry for my team as they’ve worked so hard all weekend. I’ll try to make up for things next time out at Barcelona”.
Federico Fuligni: “my bike worked better today than it did yesterday, but unfortunately during the course of lap one, at turn 7, I had to run off track to avoid making dangerous contact with another rider and so I lost a few positions. I then gave it all I had to try and catch up again and was able to finish inside the points zone. Thanks very much to my team for all their hard work this weekend.”
