MV Agusta Reparto Corse is competing in round 5 of the Supersport world championship at Motorland Aragon in Spain. The 2020 calendar, modified due to the spread of coronavirus, includes two back-to-back rounds at the Andalusian track. The second of these events began yesterday, with two free practice sessions, at the end of which Raffaele De Rosa was lying second (1’54”632) and Federico Fuligni eleventh (1’55”804). Today began with the third and final practice, in which De Rosa was able to improve on his lap time and set a 1’53”833 to finish third in the combined practice standings. Fuligni also lowered his time with respect to yesterday, setting a 1’55”658 that saw him close fifteenth. The fifth Superpole ran in the late morning, and De Rosa once again put in a great performance, stopping the clock on 1’53”497 and concluding in third position. Thanks to this result, Raffaele earned a front row start for the weekend’s races. Fourteenth for Fuligni (1’54”881), who therefore lined up on the fifth row for the eighth race of the season, which played out this afternoon over fifteen laps. Having made a good start, De Rosa was lying fifth through the opening laps, immediately showing to have strong pace. On lap three, Raffaele moved up to fourth and one lap later he was third. A position he then held until lap eight, when he passed Cluzel and moved into second place. Thanks to his consistently fast pace, the MV Agusta Reparto Corse rider held second to the line, scoring his third podium and best result of the season so far. Fuligni also earned his best result of the season, crossing the line in tenth place after making up several positions. In the championship standings, De Rosa is fourth with 91 points while Fuligni is fifteenth with 19. Both riders will compete in tomorrow’s ninth race of the Supersport season, which will round out this fifth round.

Raffaele De Rosa: “The race went better than those of last weekend. We knew we had good pace, but that we needed to improve in qualifying. We were able to do that and have secured this result, which is a morale boost for me and the team. We need to be quicker over the flying lap, but we’re working on that. For tomorrow’s race, we’ll try something different to see if we can be even faster. The team has done a great job and I want to thank all my technicians, sponsors and, of course, MV.”

Federico Fuligni: “A good race. I’m quite pleased with my final position although early on I risked crashing a couple of times and this caused me to lose contact with the group ahead. From then on, I found a good rhythm and moved back up to final tenth place. For tomorrow, we’ll make a few small changes during warm-up, to be able to exploit our full potential in the race. Thanks to my team for all their help today.”
