The sixth round of the Supersport world championship continued today at ‘new’ Circuit Catalunya-Barcelona in Spain, the Catalan track hosting the production-derived series for the very first time. Yesterday was conditioned by rain, which began to fall before the start of the second practice. In the combined standings, Raffaele De Rosa (1’46”412) finished seventh, while Federico Fuligni (1’48”270) concluded in nineteenth place. Saturday’s third and final practice ran on a track that was still not completely dry following early morning rain. As a result, no rider was able to improve on yesterday’s times, meaning that De Rosa retained sixth place, and Fuligni nineteenth. The sixth Superpole of the season played out on a dry track. De Rosa was fast right from the start, and despite finding traffic on his flying lap, he still finished fifth, with a time of 1’45”501. Unfortunately a minor crash prevented Fuligni from doing more than twenty-sixth. Due to a penalty received for an incident in which he was involved at the previous Motorland Aragon round, De Rosa was forced to start today’s race from pitlane. The race got underway on a dry track, De Rosa having to wait for the race to start before starting out from pitlane. Once on track, Raffaele set a series of fastest laps and made up a number of places, soon finding himself just two seconds from seventh. On lap nine, it began to rain heavily again, and the MV Agusta Reparto Corse riders returned to the garage to change their tyres. However, when they headed back out on track, they were stopped with the red flag, brought out due to excessive water on track. De Rosa therefore finished the race in fourteenth place, Fuligni seventeenth. The win went to a rider who was in last place on lap one and chose not to come into the garage to change the tyres.

Raffaele De Rosa: “It was a very strange race. I got the impression they delayed my start, Despite starting from pitlane, I was really motivated to give it my all and score the best possible result, but losing precious seconds while waiting to start made my race even more difficult. Thanks to my very strong pace, I was able to move up as far as thirteenth before the rain came and messed up the result. When the rain became torrential the red flag eventually came out, a little late maybe. Luckily there were no incidents. In race 2 I can start from row two thanks to my result in yesterday’s Superpole and I hope to run a good race. I want to thank my team for their great work.”
Federico Fuligni: “I started a long way back due to my Superpole result and immediately pushed hard, quickly making up positions. My recovery was interrupted when it started to rain. I was one of the first to come in for the tyre change, but the rain intensified and the red flag came out. It was a difficult and unfortunate race, but we’ll try again in race 2, hoping for better weather.”
